Things We've All Done At Work

Whether you’ve been in your job for a matter of months of years, we’re all guilty of a little bad habit or two. Sometimes, it’s sneaking in late to meetings, other times it’s simply ignoring emails we can’t be bothered with. We’re only human and sometimes taking a few shortcuts is all we can do to keep the 9 to 5 a little interesting.

We’re not asking you to admit to anything – just know we’ve all been there. We don’t make judgements and we certainly won’t land you in it with the boss.

Take a look at our list of things we’re all guilty of at work.

Bad timekeeping

Whether you’ve snuck in a few minutes late or even left a few minutes early, we’re all guilty of this to some extent. Just think of it as ‘time back’ for all those lunchtimes you’ve worked through. Ahem.

Avoided meetings

Are you swamped right now? We believe you. There’s simply no way you can attend that meeting because – as your messy desk suggest – you’re absolutely snowed under with work.

Ignored emails

Every so often, you’ll get an email through that entails some sort of task or project that makes you want to leap from the nearest window. Oops, it got deleted.

Took extended lunches

Sometimes clients genuinely do keep you chatting for longer than you anticipated, other times it’s the queue in Topshop. Swings and roundabouts, really.

Social media skived

There is that point in the week – roughly 3pm on a Wednesday – where you’ve given up. So you take a wee look on LinkedIn, Twitter or Facebook … And before you know it, it’s 5.30pm. Oops.

‘Forgot’ to do something

Similar to those annoying emails, there will always be some sort of task (usually a horrific spreadsheet) that really doesn’t take your fancy. Terrible how forgetful you are sometimes …

Hid in the bathroom

Sometimes, you just need a break. So, you take yourself away from your desk for a few minutes and just sit in a cubicle, contemplating life.

Passed the buck

If you’re lucky enough to be assigned an intern, you’ll soon find yourself passing on those mundane jobs or monster projects that you simply, eh, “have no time for” …
