Snacks To Boost Your Productivity At Work

If you’re having a particularly bad day at work – or it’s Friday and, therefore, calories don’t count – it can be incredibly tempting to reach for a bar of chocolate or a packet of crisps. Fizzy juice seems like a good idea to perk you up and get you through an afternoon. Even a stodgy, takeaway lunch might seem like a ‘reward’ for a tough morning.

However, all these high calorie treats will do nothing but make you feel sluggish and lethargic for the afternoon ahead. There are many tasty (healthy doesn’t have to mean boring) snacks that you can have at your desk throughout the day to keep your energy levels and productivity at their peak.

Here are just some examples of the types of food that will help you power through your workload, without over indulging in the calories.

Banana and Peanut Butter

Just one banana is packed with enough glucose and protein to keep you focused for a whole day. Couple this up with the heart-healthy fats of peanut butter and you have the perfect snack. What makes it even better is that it tastes great. You could dip some banana slices in to the peanut butter or use the two ingredients as toppers for wholemeal toast.

Green Tea

Ditch your daily milk and two for green tea. It’s a healthy, caffeinated alternative to your regular hot drink. It’s full of anti-oxidants, which improve your skin and help to lower blood pressure. It also contains an amino acid called L-theanine that improves focus and helps the brain stay alert. It’s actually something you can drink warm in winter or with ice in summer. You won’t miss your extra skinny latte with two shots … We promise.

Almonds

There are so many redeeming features in a little handful of almonds! Not only do they help fend off hunger pangs but they are also proven to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels. They contain healthy fats, as well as fibre, protein and Vitamin E. They’re also really tasty, which is a bonus.

Dark Chocolate

Yes, chocolate can actually be good for you! As we said, eating well doesn’t mean eating bland or flavourless food. The rich taste of a couple of squares of dark chocolate will do your ability to focus the world of good. Why? Because the levels of sugar and caffeine contained in it release just the right amount of energy to help you get through the day. Dark chocolate also contains magnesium and anti-oxidants which are proven to relieve stress.

Carrots and Hummus

The luteolin found in carrots helps improve memory, while hummus contains Omega 3 fatty acids and amino acids which help improve intelligence and boost your mood. Hummus also packs lots of protein and calories that help curb your hunger longer. What is not to love about this snack?

So, next time you need a mid-afternoon boost and find yourself reaching for the biscuit jar, try a healthier alternative to help sharpen your focus.
